Helvetica

1995

Ryan Parmenter recorded this first solo release at age 17. What began as experiments in MIDI sequencing turned into a full-fledged album of quirky, melodic tunes. Composed of 5 instrumentals (featuring the 9-minute "Supersaturated") and 5 songs with vocals (featuring the ascerbic "Caning" and the freaky "Bastard Brine"), each track is bursting with challenging, insteresting, and memorable musical moments. Available now for the first time since its limited 1995 release, "Helvetica" was where Ryan's unique music all started!

"One man progressive rock opera. Part Genesis, part Canterbury, part Zappa--this is some really impressive stuff!!!"

Consumption

2005

The 2nd release by Ryan's band Eyestrings has received much critical praise, especially from within the progressive rock community. Featuring long-form compositions and melodies that alternately flow delicately and rock intensely, the album is an emotional roller-coaster, culminating in the 20-minute "Lifelines."

"Even though this review, and undoubtedly others, mentions the darker style of Eyestrings music, the album is ultimately rather uplifting and a joy to listen to." (9 out of 10)

Burdened Hands

2004

The 1st release by Ryan's band Eyestrings is an eclectic array of rock styles, from progressive ("Empty Box") to poppy ("Just A Body"). The songs vary in theme and approach, from frighteningly aggressive ("Time Will Tell") to lightheartedly humorous ("Slackjaw"). The debut album is a fine representation of the band's range.

"There is enough complexity in the music to keep you coming back for more. There are catchy melodies plastered in all the cavernous regions of the music."

Trespass soundtrack

2005

Josh Corbin and Brad Voorhees produced this effective thriller, which finds eight college kids lost and then squatting in the wrong cabin--the worldly realm of a long-dead soul who is out for revenge. The soundtrack crosses many genres, from traditional symphonic arrangements to jazz, electronica, and even emo. Sometimes hauntingly beautiful, and in moments downright frightening, this almost entirely instrumental score evokes emotions even without the accompanying images.

Goblin Wars soundtrack

2003

Adam Kelly and Michael Bush pushed low-budget, high-tech widardry to the limit in this feature about the demise of a good king and the rise of tyranny. Fun to watch with great moments of humor and several scenes that are breathtaking (especially when considering that most of it was shot in a backyard), this is an exemplary low-budget fantasy film. The grandiose soundtrack nods to the styles of several great cinematic composers, with many musical peaks and valleys throughout.

High End soundtrack

2001

Mark Thomas Elliott brought his first feature to the big screen in 2001, a meditative drama about a young man trying to escape his already-tangled past. The scoundtrack is delicate and ethereal, with a few upbeat moments here and there, and proves for great mood music outside of the context of the film. The reprise at the end nicely ties together many of the musical themes.
